Good Morning NYC Fit Food Fashion Readers! This video is one of my favorite things that came out this week. As you know I am a huge SJP fan and after meeting her a couple of weeks ago, I am a bigger fan than ever. The greatest things about this video is you can see how real and human this fashion goddess actually is. Also surprising how much random things you can learn about Sarah Jessica Parker in 5 minutes. A great plus in this video is that you get a glimpse into her New York City Brownstone. I don’t know about you I was shocked by how homey it seemed. I think I was expecting something more extravagant from the home of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. It seemed warm and welcoming just like the lady herself. Check out the video and try not to love her as much as I do!
Happy Friday Fashion Lovers! Just like most women I am always looking for a great cocktail dress. This week on my Pinterest fashion post I will be looking at the variety of cocktail dresses that are styled on Pinterest. The thing I love about fashion on Pinterest is that you can find more than just an item but great photos of how to style and accessorize those pieces. With spring on its way (thank god!) we can all look forward to putting on some dresses and hopefully hitting some spring parties. While I was searching Pinterest this week I put together some of my favorite cocktail dresses that you may enjoy. Here is a look at some of the ones I pinned:
Isn’t this green dress absolutely gorgeous!
Good Afternoon Fashion Lovers! I am happy yet sad to announce that there will be a Nanette Lepore Archive Sample Sale. I am happy because I love Nanette but sad because I will not be able to attend due to my very pregnant status at this moment!
I have been to 2 Nanette Lepore Sample Sales in the last year and believe me there is not much that would keep me away from getting my hands on some of her pieces. If you are in NYC March 18-20th, 2014 you have to stop by 225 W 35th St and check out all the goodies that Nanette has to offer. If you have not seen my previous posts on my experiences at a Nanette Lepore sale you can find those here:
If you are lucky enough to attend the sale please come on back here and let me know what you got! I am so sad to be missing this that I will have to live vicariously through the rest of you NYC Sample Sale loving gals. I can promise you that I will not miss the next one!
Good Morning Workout Lovers! It is Wednesday again and it is time for Workout Wednesday. I am in week 37 of pregnancy so my workout will still be a little tame. I will interested to see how these work outs will change once I have the baby and can get back into actual training. I can’t wait! Today I will be doing a short back, biceps and glutes workout. I will also be finishing it off with an incline walk on the treadmill. Here is a look at what I have planned for my workout today:
- 3 sets of 15 reps
- single arm dumbbell rows
- standing bicep curls
- hammer curls
- plie squats
- leg press
- 30 min incline treadmill walk
With spring weather coming soon I have been obsessing over the awesome colors that Athleta has to offer in active wear this spring. If you have not had a chance to take a look you should head over to Athleta and check out what they have to offer. As a new Athleta shopper I just as pleased with the quality of the active wear as I am with the fashionable looks that they put out this season. I was even able to find some great pieces that I have been enjoying during my pregnancy. I do have a gift card that I am looking forward to using after this baby makes it appearance in a couple of weeks! I wanted to share with you some of my favorite Athleta looks that are available right now:
This is the Fast Track Half Zip, this awesome piece comes in 5 colors. It is a great layering base that is completely breathable. An option for all the unpredictable weather we have been having!
The Bay Beach Capri comes in 3 colors, my favorite is this heather grey. This is a great item for the gym, walking on the beach or just lounging around. I love wearing ankle length capris in the spring weather.
The Pacifica UPF Tank is available in 7 vibrant colors. This is a great under layer for runners or any other activity you want to do in this tank. I am tempted to add a couple of these tanks to my active wear collection.
I have been seeing high tops all over the place this year. These are the Samsula High Top Shoes by Off the Beaten Track. The high tops feature a hidden wedge in the base of the shoe to give a little lift to those of us that may need one. Another great feature is that they are leather with an edgy snake-skin like texture to them. definitely not your regular pair of high tops!
I hope I have given you some motivation to go workout today and also to go and check out Athleta and up your active wear wardrobe! I know I am so excited to buy some of these pieces, maybe I will get this whole outfit! What type of workout will you be doing today on Workout Wednesday? What is your favorite active wear brand?
Hey fashion lovers! I was on one of my favorite twitter chats #BeautyTalk on a Tuesday night and we had been talking about beauty as usual and I had brought up that happiness can be a beauty tip. Living a positive life can be one of the best fashion or beauty tips that anyone can follow. A happy person radiates confidence and always seems more vibrant. Let’s all try to the best and happiest you that you can be!
It is time for the Free People catalog again. I love when I get mine in the mail, even with all this technology I still love to hold the catalog in my hand and look at all the fabulous looks that Free People have put together. This month there is a few things going on with Free People:
March Catalog – Free People’s March catalog stars a model who defines effortless cool, Erin Wasson. The collection sheds its winter layers and embraces a bare look for spring. The collection features an eclectic mix of pieces from ‘barely there’ tops layered with strappy bras, to bold South American-inspired denim, and breezy maxis. Accessories focus on long drapey chains and statement arm cuffs to complete the look. Shop the Catalog here.
Short Film ‘The Ride’ – The catalog follows Erin and her (fictional) beau as they took a (real-life) road trip through the vast Midwestern desert on a classic Harley Davidson. The pair made stops at motels and diners, all the while being captured for the campaign along the way. When the adventurous duo reached their destination ? the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas ? Erin posed as a blushing bride saying her ‘I do’s’ to her denim-clad groom. Watch the Short Film here.
‘Open Call’ Talent Scout Competition – Free People, is teaming up with Jed Root, a global leader in artist management, and IMG Models, a top international model management agency, to launch ‘Open Call,’ a hunt to find creative talent from across the country. Together, they will scout individuals who are passionate about styling, modeling, and photography to produce and appear in Free People’s upcoming e-Catalog launching in June. Each winner will have a once in a lifetime chance to work alongside famed model, Erin Wasson, and a talented team of creative professionals. See Website for the details.

Hey guys! I had promised myself at New Year’s that I would start every month off with a note to you guys. Well when did March start? I feel like January was the slowest month I have ever experienced and February was over in the blink of an eye. Maybe it is because February is so short or that I am a few weeks away from the birth of my first little one. This is something I am extremely excited yet very nervous for! I think the best part will be finally finding out what we are having. Will this be a handsome little guy or a beautiful little gal? My odds are on a boy but as we all know intuition is not always correct!
If you have been following nycfitfoodfashion.com you may have noticed that I have been featuring a lot more guest features since New Years and this will continue. I think that it brings a little more to the page and not just one voice. I hope you agree! I will also be taking a break when the baby comes. Do not worry there will still be posts, I have a team of guest bloggers that will be posting work during the week of 2 that I will not be able to. I am hoping to have a great balance of fitness, food, recipes and fashion tips from some fantastic bloggers. I am still accepting submissions, if you are interested please send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I love to support other bloggers out there.
Lately I have been posting a lot of fashion posts. I go with what ever inspires me, right now that seems to be fashion. I will be working on getting back to a regular balance of all the things you love in fitness, food and fashion. There has been so many great things going on in fashion lately. How about those SJP Shoes?? I can not stop thinking about them!
As per usual I really love hearing from you guys and I am looking for feedback. What would you like to see from NYC Fit Food Fashion this month? Is there anything that pops out at you that you have been looking for us to cover? Please feel free to reach out and let’s talk!
As for what I do have planned for this month. Here are some topics:

- and many many more!
This month is going to be a crazy one for me. With this being my first child I would love to here from any of you that have some advice. Especially for how things are going to go after we get home! I am really blessed that Jon will be home for the first month with me but other than that I am on my own here. Any tips would be greatly appreciated by this first time Mamma. I will be heading to the Dr today to see if the little one has decided to turn down. Have a great day everyone!
For a truly versatile fashion item, the timeless tunic is one piece that should be in every woman’s wardrobe. Worn on its own as a dress or over trousers or leggings as a long top, a stylish tunic can be worn by women of any size, shape and age. If you’re not sure how best to wear a tunic to flatter your figure, then read on for all the hints and tips you need.
If your figure is the classic English pear shape you’ll want to avoid drawing attention to your hips, and flatter your best bits. You’ll want to go for a tunic that’s cut in a way that will cover your lower body well, without clinging to the hips and thighs. A tunic with side vents that falls below the thighs is perfect for pear shapes, and a wide or embellished neckline will draw the attention to your upper body.
Curvy girls often make the mistake of choosing loose, shapeless clothing to try to disguise their figures, when they should be showing off their curves! On the other hand, you don’t want anything too tight that will cling to any lumps and bumps. Getting the right balance can be difficult, but sites such as navabi.co.uk offer a wide range of styles for plus size women.
If you’re an apple shape, which means that you’re wider in the midsection, then the perfect tunic for you will draw attention to your legs and your upper body. A Vshaped neckline and a short necklace will both draw the eye up to your face, and if you want to wear your tunic over trousers, go for skinny jeans to enhance your legs.
An hourglass figure will be swamped in a loose tunic, and of course you won’t be able to show off your curves, so a fitted tunic is the perfect choice for you. If you have a large bust, you need to be extra careful how you style your tunic to avoid looking matronly, so either go for an empireline waist or wear it with a coordinating belt to really cinch it in.
If you’re petite, you need to make sure you don’t go for a tunic that’s too long, as if it doesn’t fall in the right position it can make you look short. A style that’s shorter will look great on you, especially if you’re proud of your legs as you can wear it on its own as a dress. Heels are an essential accessory for petite women, and you can wear killer heels to dress up your tunic, or cute wedges for a dresseddown summer look.
Once you’ve found your dream tunic, you can play around with styles and accessories to find the
perfect look for your body type. In fact, a tunic is even a stylish choice when you’re pregnant, a la Gwen Stefani!

Happy Tuesday Shoesday everyone! This week was an obvious choice for me the SJP Collection launched on Friday February 28th on the Nordstrom website and in stores. I had been anticipating this collection for months almost as much as I had the Nordstrom pop up shop that was opened up for 3 days to go along with it. Read all about my trip to the SJP Collection Pop Up Shop here. I was able to try on a lot of the shoes and bought 2 pairs. I have to tell you they did not all fit perfectly but what shoe fits perfect on everyone! There are a few pairs I am still dreaming about but I had to limit myself to 2 pairs for the time being! The price range is $195-$500, not as expensive as a pair of Manolos but more expensive than your average pair of heels but these are not your average shoes. These beauties were crafted in Italy and have some beautiful details. Let’s take a look at some of the shoes in the SJP Collection from the lovely Sarah Jessica Parker:
Etta comes in this gorgeous blush pink and a pewter color. Out of all of the shoes this one screamed Sex and the City to me the most!
Diana was named after Princess Diana and this shoe is a new take on the classic Mary Jane. I tried this one on and I loved it. It is on my list of shoes that I can not stop thinking about. Come on this shoe could go with almost anything!
This is Carrie, I do not think I have to mention who this shoe is named after. I went to the shop planning on buying this beauty but alas it was not meant to be. The fit was a little narrow, especially for my pregnant footsies. This gorgeous pair comes in purple, cream and black. Get these babies quick because they are almost a sell out!
Silvia I did not have a chance to try on but looking at them now I wish I had. I love the little bow detailing. This shoe comes in Navy and Coral.
This is Lady, another shoe that I tried on and another one that I LOVE. The color is so striking in person and it is such a classic style.
Another one of my regrets is not grabbing one of the SJP Beekman Grosgrain Clutches. This bag came in 5 colors and I was reassured by the great people at the pop up shop that this bag will be a basic in the collection. That means that I will still be able to get my hands on it!
I did not include the 2 pairs that I did buy in this post. If you are curious to see what I purchased, check out my post My Visit to the SJP Pop Up Shop NYC.
Good Morning Everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. Let’s talk about what everyone is talking about this morning, Oscars! Once again it was a really long show and I made it all the way to the end. My guesses of who was going to win were right on the money. Who did not love Matthew Mcconaughey’s speech? I absolutely love him! As usual the best part of the night is the fashion. Let’s take a look at some of my top 5 picks for the best dressed at the Oscars:
1.My first choice is Lupita Nyong’o, she has been stunning this whole rewards season and she really was the belle of last nights ball. This gorgeous easter egg blue dress was designed by Prada. There was also some delicate beading up the bottom that was not really detectable on camera. I think Lupita looked gorgeous last night and she was also the winner of Best Supporting Actress for her role in “12 Years a Slave”. If you have not seen it, you have to.
2. Cate Blanchett was gorgeous in Armani Prive. The soft gold gown was definitely one of the talks of the night. The romantic cap sleeve dress was embellished with Swarovski crystals and really made a statement on the red carpet. Cate was dazzling as she won the Best Actress Oscar for Blue Jasmine. I have seen the movie and I loved it but Jon was not a fan. We were both a fan of how she looked last night though. Stunning.
3. Anna Kendrick may not have been an award winner like the previous women I mentioned but she was a winner on the red carpet that is for sure. Anna was a stunner in an edgy black J. Mendel gown. Some people are saying they thought it was too busy looking but I think she was definitely a fashionista on the carpet. Anna has been making the rounds at this past season’s fashion shows and she definitely took home some tips from that. I loved her look.
4. Once again I may not be in the majority here but I think Portia Di Rossi looked amazing last night. Portia was one of the first on the red carpet and stayed on my mind for the rest of the red carpet fashions. I found there were a lot of people keeping it safe this year and were boring. Not Portia she looked sexy, classy and drop dead gorgeous. Portia wore an ultra sheer white halter gown. The patterned cut out gown was designed by Naeem Khan and I loved it!
5. I have always loved this gal, Kate Hudson was the most stunning presenter of the evening. Kate was an absolute goddess in Versace. The gown also had a dramatic cape that added so much glamour to Kate’s look. The dress almost had an 80’s feel to it and I was in love with it.
Who was your favorite for Oscar’s Best Dressed last night?
